Choosing the Best Dating Site for You

Choosing the right dating site can be daunting. For one, there are thousands of dating and matchmaking sites on the web. Two, each including popular dating sites, is tailored to meet specific needs or objectives. Three, what's good for one person is not necessarily good (or right) for another.

So, how do you find the best dating site for you? Here are some pointers to help narrow the field and make it easier for you to make the right choice.

1. Know what you are looking for. Are you seeking a serious or casual relationship? If seeking a serious relationship, go to a site that caters to that. If seeking encounters or casual relationships, you'll be wasting time if you sign up with serious relationship sites.

2. Know yourself. This is related to point No. 1 above. What things are meaningful to you? What are your passions or hobbies? Know these could help in deciding the type of site best suited for your particular needs (see point No. 5).

3. Ask a friend who has done it: This option may not be the best simply because a friend will likely recommend what is right for her/him, which may not be necessarily so for you. But a friend may tell about good or bad experiences with certain website(s).

Caution: if the friend had a bad personal online dating experience or for any reason never succeeded she/he might take the chance to vent, and tell you just how it won't work. Personal experiences are exactly that, personal.

4. Do some good old research: Do a search on your favorite search engine using keywords such as "dating sites", "internet dating sites", "dating site reviews", "online dating websites", "online personals" etc. Not the best way if you are short of time as you may have to weed through hundreds of sites one by one. Reading objective reviews about various dating sites will help farther narrow the field.

5. Which is best, specialty (aka niche) or popular dating site? One more reason you should know what you want. Is religion important to you? Or is ethnicity? What about age? Do you have kids or do you want someone with kids? What about your hobbies/passions? There are specialty and community-based dating sites to cater for almost every need, interest, value or passion (examples: single parents, Asian, catholic, bicycle lovers, military etc).

6. How long has the site been existent? Obviously, a new site will not have that many enough members, or most members will be on trial. Conversely, an older site will have established a large database. Also, that a site has been around for a couple of years or more means it probably is doing something right.

7. Features: Look for sites which offer onsite instant messaging, anonymous email, photo profiles, chat/video chat and other handy features. How do you tell what features are offered without first becoming a paid member? See No.10 below.

8. Sign up with more than one site. The very first site you sign up with may not be best suited for you. Therefore it is important to sign up with three or more to get a feel (see No.10 below on how to do this without first having to pay).

9. Establish a budget. Decide how much you are willing to spend, but be realistic. Free or cheap websites may not provide you with quality service or features. Some websites charge a recurring fee, others a one-time fee, while still others charge by services used.

10. Sign up for free trials: Almost all the popular dating sites offer a free trial period. A free trial allows you to test-drive the site without committing. Never sign up with a site that has no free trial. Free trials differ from site to site. Some sites offer full-featured free trials for a limited time, others offer limited features for a longer or indefinite period and others something in-between.

How to Find Your Wealthy Place by Knowing Who You Are

What is your wealthy place? A wealthy place is that one place where everything you do seems to turn to gold. Golfers call it their sweet spot and ballers call it being in the zone. But whatever you call it, everyone has one. Your wealthy place is your place of purpose.

Before I can talk about seeking your purpose you must first accept that you do have a specific purpose for being here. If this is not accepted as truth, you wont be free to pursue the purpose with everything youve got. Therell always be a gnawing at youone that tells you youre wasting your time. So as the Bible tells us, in the mouths of two or three witnesses every word may be established. (Matthew 18:16 and 2 Corinthians 13:1)

Witness Number One: God ordained you for a specific purpose before you were formed in your mothers womb. Jeremiah tells us, Then the word of the Lord came to me saying: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.

Not convinced yet? Well, consider what Paul (Witness Number Two) tells us in Galatians 1:15, It pleased God, who separated me from my mothers womb and called me through his grace. Paul was called to be an apostle from his mothers womb. And you were called to do a thing that only you can do.

And as the third witness Ill turn to Romans 8:8-30. That scripture tells us that God predestined us and called us according to His purpose. The clear implication from this scripture is that God has a purpose for every one of us. The question is, are you fulfilling that purpose?

Who Does God Say We Are

After youve reached acceptanceyou know that God created you for a specific purposeyouve got to see yourself the way God sees you. From the moment we were born someone labeled us. Ooh, isnt she cute? or Youre so stupid. Whether good or bad weve been called something. And for some reason the bad stuff tends to stick. We internalize those negative labels and let them strip us of who God created us to be.

There are many ways God describes His children in the Bible. Ill focus on three that really stand out and excite me. I use them to stir myself up whenever the spirit of depression tries to attach itself to me and tell me Im not good enough.

First, the word of God tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. (Psalms 139:14; Genesis 1:26-27.) But, God also made each of us an original (Galatians 5:26.) Theres nobody just like you and theres nobody just like me. Even given that uniqueness, there are certain characteristics all born-again Christians share.

One of those characteristics is that were all overcomers. I John 5:4 says, For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world. There is nothing in this world that we cant overcome through the power of God.

The next characteristic is that were more than conquerors through Jesus. (Romans 8:37.) We dont have to struggle to find a way to succeed. Through the anointing of God not only will we enjoy success, everyone around us will also. Ive heard Hayden Hendrix, a minister who founded More than Champions Ministry, use the comparison of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Obviously, both are conquerors (champions), but what made Michael Jordan more than a conqueror is that he made all the players around him better as well. He wasnt all about getting his, he wanted to make the entire team better; he was more than a conqueror. And so are we.

The last characteristic well cover is possibly the most significant. Jesus said, Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. (Matthew 5:14.) We are light. Thats how God sees usas light.

And what does He want us to do with that light? Not cover it with insecurities or submerge ourselves in selfish pursuits. We are to let [our] light so shine before men that they may see our good works, and glorify [our] father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16.) We glorify God by letting our light shine. And we let our light shine by simply being our best. Thomas Merton may have put it best when he said, A tree glorifies God by being a tree. Thats all God requires of usto be who He made us to be. That makes life pretty simple.

Are Travel Agents A Thing Of The Past?

In the past, before the advent of the Internet, it has largely been too time consuming or too expensive for the average consumer to deal directly with the travel operator and personally arrange every aspect of their holiday. Travel agents became a trusted and speedy medium via which the holiday consumer could book a package that would otherwise be impossible for the independent consumer to find.

The role of the travel agent includes three key tasks:

1) Perform the function of the information broker, passing information between buyers and suppliers

2) Process transactions including printing tickets and forwarding money to suppliers

3) Advise travellers on places to go, things to do and other important information

These three tasks have been lampooned by the information and facilities provided on the Internet. Consumers have recently realised that it is possible to research their planned holiday fully online. Users can find out about specific regional information at the click of a mouse. Small local hotels, specific local attractions and regional tours can be researched with ease before a booking is considered.

In the early years of the Internet, consumers tended not to trust booking online. It was perceived that parting with credit card details over the Internet was not a secure method of payment. Users instead tended to research everything they wanted to know before hand and then contact their travel agent either face-to-face or over the phone to book their holiday package.

The Internet offers an effective means for developing a single and sustainable electronic infrastructure for information gathering and business transactions for both travellers and suppliers. It is an ideal method for people to source information on travel. It is therefore essential for travel-related Websites to offer useful, pertinent and easy-to-find information alongside a booking facility if appropriate. The Internet can be used to fully research a destination, book all aspects of the holiday including travel and communicate others who have the same ideas or have been through similar experiences. It gives travellers an excellent opportunity to compare and contrast everything on offer before they make a purchase.

The information available online is continually being reformatted and presented in a more logical, easy-to-use and read format. The volume of consumers that rely on this information to make travel-related decisions will therefore continue to rise. In addition, features and benefits of using the Internet to research and book holidays are improving and being added to all the time. For example, consumers no longer have to receive printed tickets from the travel operator. They simply print out any information that they require themselves after they receive it automatically via email.

The Internet has meant that people can now easily plan trips for themselves. This has not only opened up a greater amount of discounts available to the general public, but also given people the fun and enjoyment of planning and booking their own trips.

Are travel agents a thing of the past? The future isnt looking too rosy for them. They might perhaps retain their presence in certain specialist markets, where they can offer a unique service to individual market segments but if youre a love all, serve all travel agent youve probably seen your income levels drop significantly over the last few years.

The 2nd Most Important Travel Item - Next To Your Passport

Its a given that for travellers, the most important item they need to bring at all times would be their passport. Not only is this a valid form of identification, without this, they would not be permitted to go in and out of any country. After making sure that the passport is safely tucked inside their bag, what else should a traveller bring? Apart from his plane ticket, a traveller should always have a source of funds.

Traditionally, travellers would use either cold cash (converted to local currency) or travellers checks. These were sound ways to conduct business although each had their own pros and cons. The problem with carrying cash is that you will always be concerned about your wallet you may miss out on enjoying your vacation. With travellers checks, on the other hand, not all establishments honour these. The problem for both is that, when you run out of cash or travellers checks, youre vacation is doomed. Nowadays, travellers no longer need to contend with bulky wallets or dwindling travellers checks because they have credit cards.

Credit cards are virtual necessities for the tourist of today. Not only do cards give the holder the power to make purchases anywhere and anytime (as most are accepted by establishments the world over), they are also very handy (does not take up too much space in any purse or wallet) and quite safe to use.

Knowing that majority of travellers now prefer to carry plastic money instead of hard cash, credit card companies have taken it upon themselves to sweeten an already sweet deal. Through travel credit cards, card holders (especially those who travel a lot) not only get a sense of financial security even when they are away; they receive something back for every dollar purchase they make.

Just like earning rewards points, travel credit cards allow card holders to accumulate points which they can then redeem against a selected list of products or, depending on the internal arrangement of the card company and the airline frequent traveller program, convert these to mileage points. Some cards may even give card holders free upgrades in their hotel accommodation.

Travel credit cards were not exclusively created for frequent fliers. Even those who only dream of going places are welcome to use them, although they may not feel nor appreciate the benefits as much as those who belong in the target market. Non travellers can use these cards and, when the time is right, cash in on the points they have accumulated through the years.

There are many travel credit cards in the market and it is difficult to choose one based on hear-say or on gut feel. You have to evaluate the individual offers, determine which one best suits your lifestyle and your travel patterns. You should also try to see which card has existing tie ups with affiliates (hotels, restaurants, boutiques) you frequent. This allows you to maximize the benefits these cards offer. If you dont want to be burdened with several brochures from different banks, you can do your research on line. There are several websites that list down the travel cards available in the market and, alongside each card, are some basic information, their promotions, and a summary of their benefits. This brief yet concise format makes comparing cards easier for the consumer.

CardsRatings.net website is owned and run by Gloria Smith. At CardRatings.net you will find a listing of over 100 credit cards. Through Card Ratings comparing and applying for a credit card is made easier. After comparing the credit card offers on site, you can immediately apply for the credit card of your choice by clicking the Apply Online button. All applications are secure, and usually, a response will be sent to you right away. To apply for a Travel Credit Card, please visit: http://www.cardratings.net/rtravel.htm. Patrica Blog34990

Planning Your Next Vacation With A Traveling Agency

There are travel agents all across United States. With the increase of technology and demands of traveling, travel agents have made a special place in the hearts of people when it comes to traveling. Today a vacationer doesnt have to leave their home to plan their next vacation. They can simply log onto the internet and even take part in a virtual tour of their potential vacation landmark.

The work of the traveling companies or the travel agents is to ensure, a good service is given to the customer and at the end of the day customer has a smiling face.

Traveling agencies have a great competition amongst themselves when it comes to service, they all strife to market best deals and attract the customers.

One of the benefits from the traveling agencies is that after the payment is done they ensure 100% support to the customer, till the customer is back from their tour.

During the recent years, travel agencies have really started marketing online and helping customers 24 hours seven days a week online. Now there are some agencies that allow buying or booking a seat online which has been made convenient for the customers.

Special business, students and childrens discounts are given at a certain period of times during the year for the customers.

STA travel specially meant for students, it helps students to fly for cheap and at the discounted rates, which is bonus mark!

Along with the good side to the Traveling agencies, there are also some of the bad experiences that the customers have experienced due to certain travel agencies.

Some of the Travel agencies ensure that the money is paid and after the payment there is no help or guidance given to the customers, these kind of companies are rated very low in the market, because of their goal to only make money and keep the customers unsatisfied.

It is important to remember some of the facts before booking with any travel agency, to know that they are going to provide good service till the end. To actually get the work done from them before the amount is paid in full.

It is best to stick to only one travel agency rather than booking with different ones, it helps, to build a good rapport when we are registered only with one travel agency. It also helps travel agency to pay better attention to its customers too

Costa Blanca Property Market

Many of us dream of owning a home in the sun either as a second property or as a permanent residence. While the Spanish property market continues to stay strong there are many pitfalls that need to be avoided. By doing some in depth research and speaking to professionals will ensure that when you do decide to make the commitment to buying property on the Costa Blanca you get it right.

For me personally I made more than one trip over to the Costa Blanca on cheap holiday vacations which provided me with the time to do some research into locations and into the types of property that were on offer. You do not have to go on an inspection tour to do this. You can simply complete an online questionaire on one of the specialist web sites for Costa Blanca property.

Once they have all your details (especially your budget) then they will gladly show you around some of the places that may be of interest to you for a couple of days while you are on vacation. You may find that this is less stress free than the more organized inspection tours that have a set itinerary in place for the 3-5 days during your visit.

Although the inspection tours are good value and a great way to see the area and get a real feel for the developments and locations that are available I always found them very stressful. So much so that I found that viewing properties for between 8-12 hours in a day was information overload. By the end of the day I had forgotten what I had viewed earlier in the day.

By the end of a 3-5 day inspection trip your brain is full to capacity with the Costa Blanca property market and you are extremely vulnerable to making a rash decision just because your mind is not relaxed enough to take into account the bigger picture. Not that there is any hard sell on these inspection trips, far from it. I found every agent that assisted me completely at ease. They are more concerned with ensuring that they are showing you the exact type and location of properties. Then they hope that the builds and developments will virtually sell themselves.

Never feel pressured to making any decision unless you are 100% sure it is the right one to make for you. It is better to take your time when looking at properties and make simple notes as you go. Then you can revisit the ones that took your interest. If you need to return home without making any decision then so be it. You can always come back on a cheap holiday later once you have had the change to reflect on everything you have seen.

This is the way I prefer to research the property market. I spend one or two days with an agent while the rest of my time I am driving around suitable locations talking to as many people as possible connected to the Costa Blanca property market. I always bring my deposit cheque just incase I see that special property, you know the one, the one you dream about before you make the trip to the Costa Blanca.

What Determines Nursing Salaries

In todays economy with declining employment in many fields that require degrees, the profession of nursing is as solid as it ever was. People with prior degrees are looking to enter the nursing profession. The salary of a nurse varies greatly. There is really no base salary but a fluctuation across the board. The reasoning for this is a varied as the salaries in nursing.

The base pay of a nurse is determined by many different factors. The first of these factors are the years of experience that the nurse brings to the table. A GN or graduate degreed nurse will start out at the lowest salary of nurse pay. They will remain at this level until they pass their board exam or NCLEX. Upon passing their boards they will receive a small increase in pay anywhere from $2.50 per hour to $5.00 per hour. The most important factor in this scenario is to keep in mind that if the graduate nurse does not successfully pass the board exam the hospital can terminate their employment or extend to them a grace period in which they have the opportunity to pass the boards a second time. In the past years, it was not unusual for a graduate nurse to stay on as a hospital employee for years before finally passing or taking their boards.

This practice is no longer widely accepted. Also the graduate nurse is not allowed to pass any medications until they have their licensure. The question remains, what is the typical base salary for a graduate nurse. It is safe to say that the salary ranges in the low to mid forty thousand dollars per year. This discrepancy of several thousand dollars has much to do with the location of the hospital. For instance, in rural communities where much of the hospital funding comes from the government, the pay rate may be higher or lower than a privately funded institution.

The mitigating factor is how successful the grant writers are at tapping into government funds, and how much private endowment monies are bestowed to the hospital. Even with these two factors in place comes the process of dissemination of the funds. This is dependent on how the board of directors see fit to use the funds. These funds could be put to the construction of a new hospital wing, or to the purchase of new diagnostic equipment.

Whether or not the nurses are unionized is also another factor in entry level nurse pay. Unions can either work for or against nursing wages. Sometimes non-unionized hospitals pay more.

Shift premiums are also a factor. The top shift premium is paid for the midnight shift. Midnight shift premiums range anywhere from $2.50 per hour to $4.50 per hour. Since most shifts in hospitals are now twelve hour shifts, midnights start around 7:30 p.m. and end around 7:30 a.m.. These are attractive hours for many nurses since they get four days off during a week and are still considered full time at thirty six hours per week. Health benefits including dental and optical are included in the total package and begin anywhere from one week after hire up to ninety days.

The area of the hospital that the nurse will work in is also a factor in pay. For instance those nurses that are trained for specialty care areas such as intensive care units (I.C.U.), the operating room, recovery room, or in the cardiac care facility will get paid an extra premium upon completion of their training in the hospital.

Different areas of the United States have been known to differ in nurse pay scales according to the cost of living and population densities.

In the final analysis, the following factors are involved in determining the salary of an entry level nurse

Galdessa Camp In Tsavo East Is An Essential Stop On Any Great Kenya Camping Safari

Galdessa is a premier Kenya Camping Safari Destination, and is small and up market, being situated in Tsavo East which is Kenya's largest park. It is easily accessible by road from the east coast resorts, but is small with only eight tents or Bandas. Totally non trendy, Galdessa is geared for the family or couple with good taste who want an exclusive type experience on a Kenya Safari, and not mass market.

Galdessa sits above the Galana River, which continues to have a good water flow even in the dry season, and thus good game viewing and great wildlife sightings from the lounge and dining room which means not having to leave the camp when you are on a Kenya safari holiday.

The whole impression is one of laid back sophistication, and yet the guest feels in close and intimate contact with the Kenyan bush, and completely off the beaten track.

There are 11 comfortable and spacious tented bandas which are thatched, sitting on wooden platforms, with a wooden verandah, far enough apart and hidden by bushes and trees, so you don't really notice your neighbors. There is solar powered electricity, traditional bucket showers, flushing toilets and running water.

Of course the purpose of a Kenya camping safari is to see, and get close to the animals, and at Galdessa, there are two main activities.

The first is the traditional GameDrive, and the riverside location means the four wheel drive vehicles follw the river, giving opportunity to see lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalos, and rhinos who al come to the permanent pools along the river. If the trip is an all day affair, then lunch will be taken at a lunch camp site, and is normally three courses with cold drinks. Bush breakfasts can also be arranged, as can Dinners.

The second thrust is a walking safari where you are always escorted by an armed ranger, and you have the chance to see, and get quite close to lions, cheetahs, giraffes, waterbucks, impalas, zebras, dik diks, crocodiles, hippos, and occasionally leopard.

When you return to Galdessa, after another incredible day in your Kenya Safari, you'll always be very happy with the high standard of cuisine, and the top flight service you will receive.

You can sit out viewing the river, hearing the sounds of the African Bush and watching the animals coming to the water.

If you are intent on a Kenya Camping Safari, visit Galdessa.

Why Outsource in India: A Country Full Of Talented Professionals

The majority of the business organizations and companies these days are now opting for the more profitable and highly productive strategy that is outsourcing. The outsourcing industry these days is rapidly growing. The main reason for this is because outsourcing can provide business organizations and companies with an economical way of getting their business processes done. And for that reason, outsourcing is now the latest trend among the high-profile businesses these days.

Some of companies in the United States, Canada and in European countries are now outsourcing some of their business processes to developing countries, like India. Considered as one of the largest outsourcing centers of today, lots of business organizations and companies outsource their business process to India mainly because of its low labor cost.

The country is known to have lots of skilled IT professionals who are looking for employment in outsourcing firms and companies that accept outsourced tasks. These individuals are very proficient and they are able to produce good quality solutions and products that are comparable to the works of an IT professional in developed countries.

An good example for this would be the help desks service. As a company that offers goods and services, in order for the particular company to stay ahead or at least be competitive enough, that particular company must have a help desk department to communicate with its clients and to provide solution to the inquiries, complaints of the clients.

If a particular business organization or company will set up an in-house help desk department, it would require a considerable amount of money. That particular company must purchase lots of technological gadgetry, hardware, software and all of the things that are needed so that the help desk department will run effectively and efficiently. The company must also employ additional personnel for the department along with full company benefits to act as help desk agents.

But if that particular business organization or company opts to outsource a help desk to one of the numerous call centers of India, the company wont have to worry about purchasing computers, software and hiring employees. That is because all of the call centers in India the essential hardware and software that are needed in a help desk center not to mention the relatively low cost of service.

Therefore, if you opt to outsource some of your business processes, such as employee payrolls, software manufacturing, help desk services, you might want to consider India as one of the countries to look for an outsourcing firm or company.

Why Do We Publish?

A major "character" in Mark Salzman's first autobiography is his father. Sometimes his father paints. But his father hates painting. He likes it when his painting is done. He likes having painted. But the act of painting itself is, in his opinion, a big pain in the backside.

Nobody reading this approaches writing like that, do they? I know I don't. Of all my experiences as an author, whacking those words down onto the paper is the best of the best. Always has been, always will be. Even though I cut most of them. I like creating.

I've quoted Hemingway before. Long periods of thinking, short periods of writing. These days, my thinking takes longer and my periods of writing are getting less frequent, but both still happen, and I still love creating something from nothing.

If it weren't for me, you would never read the words you're reading right now. Nobody else would ever write them. And they contain my thoughts. Through time and space, better than telepathy, you hear what I'm saying.

So, there's one reason to write, isn't it? The biggie, if you ask me. I write what I do because I can't NOT write it. I may be clarifying my thoughts in my own head. But, most certainly, I'm just so moved by those thoughts that I must put them on paper. They're in me and they have to get out, kinda like those critters in the ALIEN movies.

Is this the only reason to write? Because I want to zap my thoughts into your heads? I don't know. But let me change the question. Is this a reason to publish? Why not write your books and stick them in a filing cabinet like Sean Connery did in the film FINDING FORRESTER? Write it, express it, file it away. Why publish it?

(It's okay if you haven't seen this obscure little gem. I will explain all.)

In fact, there are writers who do exactly that. Some fear rejection or criticism. We hear about them whenever we pop into a writing workshop. But I don't think there are very many of them. I have trouble picturing someone who can spend months (years?) doing something as essentially egotistical as writing a novel, but who is fundamentally lacking in any sort of self-confidence. Naw, they're thinking posterity but lack the stones to admit it.

At times I've got an inferiority complex I wouldn't dream of whacking onto your shoulders, but it was absent when I wrote my books. During the act of writing itself, you think, "My words are better than your words." You do. You feel that you must record your thoughts because they're that much better than most. That's what writing is. So, I would say that by definition the author isn't ALWAYS plagued by self-doubt.

In FINDING FORRESTER, the Sean Connery character won the Pulitzer with his first book, saw that every reviewer misunderstood him, and decided they could all get stuffed. This is a movie, a work of fiction, but I understand the attitude. I once wrote a true story, where the main character was Michael LaRocca, only to have a critic slam the main character as "unbelievable." Apparently I don't act like real people.

I could never shove all my writing in a filing cabinet, unpub- lished, and tell the establishment to get stuffed. But yep, there are stupid people in the world, and some of them review books.

So, we've identified two groups who won't be seeking publication. Hopelessly insecure and hopelessly arrogant. But, like Aristotle, I prefer moderation. You still may be wondering why I seek publi- cation. So do I. Let my exploration of this question continue.

I've hit best-seller status for two different e-publishers with three different books. Minor thrills at the time, but there's no way I could call them enough of a reward for what I put into writing.

You're an author. You know what I'm talking about. We all but kill ourselves to make our books. And let's be blunt here. Unless you're going to throw Rowling/King/Clancy/Grisham money at me -- and you're NOT -- money isn't sufficient reason to publish.

Publishing isn't just a case of sending it to a publisher, signing a contract, and being done.

Next up is editing, which is a blast. Not at the time, perhaps. Any editor worth a damn will beat you over the head with every bad word choice you ever made. And you made hundreds! But at the end of that gauntlet, you know you are da bomb.

Seeing my cover art is almost always awesome. Yes, I did say "almost." One bad experience among eight. It happens. But if you've worked with a publisher, you know what I mean. You log onto the Internet one morning, not fully conscious, amazed that you poured that first cup of coffee without burning off your naughty bits. You pop open an email and see cover art that almost makes your head explode. You get this big rush, thinking, "Someone understands my writing!" What you don't realize, naive little author, is that some artists don't even read the books they do the art for. But still. The art rocks your world. Feel that. I always enjoy clicking those email attachments and seeing MY book covers.

Then comes marketing. Biggest pain in the... Well, let's just say it makes me want to not publish sometimes. So why publish?

I've entered the EPPIES three times, and been a finalist three times. The second time one of my books was an EPPIE finalist, I made some wisecrack in an author's egroup about how "finalist" is a synonym for "loser" and was raked over the coals.

Oops!

(Maybe I annoyed entrants who weren't finalists. I'd always wondered if they existed...)

So let's say I'm not publishing for money or awards. They sing a siren song to new authors which this jaded old bastard quit hearing long ago. I got all that out of my system in the previous millenium. So why do I still publish? What are my rewards? Let me mention a few.

A psychologist turned English teacher formed a women's reading group at the university where we once worked together in China. Her concept was women readers, women writers. But the first book the group ever discussed was my very own RISING FROM THE ASHES, which is about Mom. My only foray into "women's literature." I couldn't attend the reading group, since I'm a guy, but my wife was there. What I learned about my book is priceless, as is knowing what those young students discussed because of my writing. Issues of such depth that I'd be proud to inspire any student, in any country, in any language, to tackle them.

I used to work on North Carolina hog farms. I enjoyed the company of some damn fine people at every one of them. Hog farming is hard work. This isn't the backyard family farm, folks, this is 13 people with 98 boars, 3500 sows, and all the babies they can make. One of my toughest coworkers was a lesbian who could break Xena in half, and my one foray into writing horror gave her nightmares.

I don't consider myself a poet, and I believe most of the reading world agrees with me. But I have published 6 poems. There is one that a hog farm coworker insists will be read at his funeral. Don't ask me why he was planning his funeral during our lunch break because I have no idea. But, well, I guess I'm invited, in a manner of speaking.

Master Pizza, 30th Street, Tampa, Florida. A bunch of drunken Italian relatives reading one of my less-than-serious poems ALOUD between pitchers of beer. It was like a Joe Dolce moment.

I was working as a security guard in a particularly unpleasant place. This was 20 years ago, I think. A fellow guard read one of my short stories. It is, by far, the most allegorical thing I've ever written. I can't tell you how many times I've thought about throwing it out. But then, I remember Bob's words. "This is me. This is my life." Me too, old pal, and I don't care if you and I are the only two readers to have any idea what I'm talking about. {Scapegoat Bob!}

I've written some pretty heady volumes, but I've also written quite a few short works. I've heard from numerous students here in China that, "This is the first book in English I've ever finished reading." When I write, I certainly never set out to help anyone learn English. (Some of my editors may claim I never learned the language.) And, students will LIE to teachers. But I've decided that at least one was telling the truth.

When I left the US, I embarked on several journeys. Learning to live in China. Learning to love again. Taking another shot at the writer dream. And, eventually, teaching. After all that, I tried my hand at writing humor for the first time. Every time I hear my wife laugh at something I've written, I file it away as a reason to keep writing.

I've written one play in my life. I was young, and quite hooked on the album (pre-CD days) JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. So, you guessed it, I tackled JC. I wrote something that nobody can read without having a powerful reaction. Readers love it or they hate it. I'm proud of that. And hey, it's only one act long. I have a short attention span.

I loaned Clint "Two Dawgs" Hill my very first book. My cousin. He took it to Durham (North Carolina) and loaned it to a bunch of hippie buddies. He asked for another, because the first one fell apart from overuse. That's why we publish. People all but fighting for the chance to read my words. And heck, the book wasn't even good yet. It's 20 years older now.

I mention all this for the jaded old bastards who have a few novels and bit of minor success under their belts. Nobody else is reading this anymore, are they?

So, maybe this is why we don't just stop when the book is written, stick it in a drawer, and uncork the champagne. Although I do hope you uncorked the champagne. This planet contains far too many people who "want to be authors" but who haven't written a book. Never have, never will. Meanwhile, you and I are sitting here knowing we had no choice. We had to write.

Why publish? Heck, why not?

Buying A Used Car Using The Web

When it comes to buying a used car there is nowhere better than the internet to help you get started. There are a huge amount of websites where sellers list their cars along with photos and detailed descriptions and this is the easiest and quickest way to find the car of your dreams. However when it comes to buying the car, there are some things that you should take into account, with this is mind here are some tips for a buying a used car.

Before you even go looking for your car make sure you have a general idea of how much cars of similar age and type go for second hand. Also bear in mind the repair costs of the model, the safety aspects of that particular model and how much the car would cost to insure.

Once you have made contact with the seller and have gone to check the car over, it is essential that you get to see all documents related to the cars history. This will give you an idea of how well the car has been treated and if it has had all the check ups it should have had.

If you are buying your used car from a dealer then you have the right to see the written warranty that is provided by the dealer before you buy, this is one way of making sure of what you are getting before you commit yourself.

When you go to look at the car make sure that you give it a through inspection in good lighting and that you take it for a test drive. Where possible make sure that you test drive the car in most situations, for example up and down hills, in heavy traffic where you are stopping and starting and if possible a brief drive down the motorway. This will all tell you how the car handles and feels and pay particular attention to not only how the car handles but also how the engine sounds.

One of the best tips when it comes to buying a used car is if you know nothing about cars then make sure that you take someone with you who does. If you dont have a friend or family member then it can pay to book someone from an auto club to go with you and look over the car. While of course this will cost you in the long run it can work out cheaper if the car is nothing more than an old banger.

Always remember that while you can get a good bargain when it comes to buying your used car privately you wont have any warranty as such as you would get from a used car dealer. So usually you will buy the car as seen and this is the risk you take for saving a couple of hundred pounds or more on the car.

Whichever way you choose to go to buy your used car with a little common sense and by following the tips for buying a used car outlined above you can grab yourself a great bargain.

Bucovina - A Travel Guide To Romania's Region Of Painted Monasteries

Bucovina is a region of monasteries, unique in the world for their colorful exterior frescoes. Equally well worth the visit are the villages, still leading the traditional way of life, and the stunning landscapes.

The name Bucovina may not mean much to many people, but Bucovina, and its brave princes, played an important part in the history of the Balkans during the XV and XVI centuries, and in particular with regard to relations with the Ottoman Empire. The impressive number of churches to be found there, with their fine exterior and interior frescoes, have been preserved and handed down from mediaeval times, and because of their uniqueness and artistic value, were added to UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List in 1993. There is, indeed, no other place in the world where such a group of churches, with such high quality exterior frescoes, are to be seen.

The churches were founded, in most cases, as family burial places of princes and high nobles. Each painter, although following the canonical iconographic programme, interpreted the scenes in a slightly different way. The scenes were first painted on the interior walls, and then extended to the exterior ones. The reasons for such vast scenes were both religious and didactic: to promote Orthodoxy and to educate the illiterate.

Tourist information in Romania: The notion of "tourist information office" disappeared after the 1989 revolution because all the local tourist offices were abolished. The travel agencies created by the private sector took over the role of the tourist information offices. They can provide you with the information and services for organizing tours in Bucovina. Because Romanians themselves increasingly prefer to travel outside Romania, the travel agencies are more specialized in organizing international travel. Local tours have been neglected for many years but are now flourishing again.

The private sector is now the most advanced, and appreciated both inside and outside the country for the western level of comfort and services.

Tourist information can also be found in the annual publication of the Romanian Yellow Pages. All bookshops sell travel guides, but it is not so easy to find travel guides of Bucovina in the main towns. An exception could be the newspaper stores.

Our travel guide: Bucovina - A Travel Guide to Romania's Region of Painted Monasteries is an excellent full-color book on a wide variety of cultural heritage subjects from mural paintings and archaeology to architecture and local traditions. It also gives practical information and tips on travel to and in Romania, what to see, where to stay, what to buy and to eat, to get the most of Bucovina.

We hope that you will enjoy your travel to Bucovina!

Big No-No's In Your Relationship with A Woman, Which She Secretly Wish You Knew!

There are things that women want men to know but do not tell them. This is going to mean the difference between a good relationship and a bad one. If men could only know about these things that are big no-nos and knew what women wanted, they would be able to have happier relationships with the woman in their life.

1) Giving Respect is as Important as Getting It

One thing is respect. Women want to have respect. When it comes to respecting women, some men are not so good at it. This may end up resulting in them losing out in the relationship. It is important to show respect to a woman that you are involved with or any woman for that matter. Give them an opportunity to see that you can be a good guy and that you can respect what they believe and let them have their own feelings about things.

Respect is going to be shown through actions. You can do nice things for a woman like opening up the door, giving up your seat or talking to her differently with passion and concern. It is not acceptable to just fake some charm on a first date. You need to be real and up front about how you are going to be in the relationship on a day-to-day basis.

2) Being Kind to the World

Being kind is another secret that most men do not know that women want. Women want their man to be kind to everyone. They want them to nice to everyone that they meet to some degree.

Treating others nicely will mean that they are kind and are going to give the same type of treatment that they deserve and expect from everyone else. Kindness can go a long way to a women's heart and it should be something that men think about.

3) Having Accountability for Actions

Women want men to have accountability. They wan to make sure that men are going to take the responsibility for the things that they have done. This can mean anything from the smallest problem to bigger life changing events that happen in their life. Women want to make sure that they are with a man that is going to be a stand-up guy and do what they are supposed to do.

4) Loving Family

One no no that women hate is a man that does not love her family. Women want to have a man that is going to love their family and take on the pressures of family life in a good way.

This means their parents, brothers, sisters and children all the same. They need to know that they can rely on their husbands or boyfriends to do what is needed of them. Most women need someone that they can trust and whom they know is going to be there for them when they are most in need.

5) Being Safe and Secure

Women want to also feel safe with their men. They want to know that they have nothing to worry about and that they are in good hands when they are with them. Having the feeling of security is going to mean all the difference when a woman is with their man. They want to be secure not only with their man but they also want to know that their man is going to be there to protect them when they need it the most.

Women need to make sure that their man is taking their relationship seriously. They want to know that their man is going to be there for them no matter what and they want to make sure that they are for real in the partnership.

Try not to joke around all the time and laugh about things in the relationship as this is going to insult some women and make them feel low. Women want their men to be committed and serious about what is going on in the relationship just as they do.

Start Your Own Profitable Internet Business... Become An Online Infopreneur!

Have you wondered how you can get started making money on the internet but don't know where to start? What better way to start your very own profitable internet business than to become an Infopreneur! Are you tired of making money for someone else? Maybe your fed up with the corporate world like I was.

Maybe you want to stay home so you can raise your kids instead of someone else - like my wife. Maybe your just looking to make some extra income from home. Whatever the reason is for your motivation, creating your own information based Website will provide that opportunity to become financially free.

Today, millions of people from all walks of life already use the internet daily. It is the most flexible and most convenient way for finding information. Information and communication are fundamental components of every human interaction. The internet makes it possible to reach almost anyone, anywhere in the world. Google, Yahoo, and MSN are the three biggest companies on the internet. Their success into becoming the big three giants are a result of providing useful information to the world. Lots of it too!

One of the biggest advantages of becoming an infopreneur is that you don't need a tangible product to sell. The cost savings of manufacturing a product and dealing with manufacturing issues are tremendous. By creating your very own information based Website all you need is quality information about a subject that you are absolutely passionate about.

Just think about all those favorite Websites you have bookmarked. I bet you have a whole bunch of sites, I know I do. Why do you think you bookmarked those sites? Well, because they gave you the information you were looking for, useful information. They attracted you to their site because they provided you with what you were looking for... quality information! Now don't you think other people are out there looking for quality information too?

Becoming an Online Infopreneur is all about providing useful information and connecting people. You can be a sought after communicator of information on the Web! What are you passionate about, NASCAR or Antiques? Do you have a hobby, HotWheel collecting? What are you truely interested in, cooking or travel? What is your favorite pastime, baseball or horseshoes? Do you have any work experience you can provide information about?

People that surf the Web love information that reflects the Website creators passion about a certain topic (travel, cooking, antiques, sports, church, gardens, ect.). You will attain more effective communication with your audiance creating a Website based on what your passionate about than Websites that are simply built on income in mind. What do you think is more effective... a website solely built for profit or a website built on useful information that the owner is passionate about. I believe the answer should be becoming quite clear by now.

So how do you create your own Information Cash Machine? Build a site that is solid with content-rich information on a topic you are passionate about. Thus, traffic will build. Generate more traffic over time through creative marketing methods. Convert those 'ready to buy' visitors into income using various income generating methods. The formula: S-C-T-I (site-content-traffic-income).

Becoming an Online Infopreneur offers many significant benfits...

1. You get to be your own boss. Working for yourself brings you freedom to work on what you want, when you want.

2. You can work anywhere. Since all your work takes place on the internet, you can be anywhere in the world... on a tropical beach, in a cabin up in Minnesota, down the street at your favorite coffee hangout, or right there in your own home-sweet-home.

3. You don't need much capital. You can start on a shoestring. Your providing information, not a tangible product you have to manufacture. Since your starting with little money, easily under $100, your risk is low.

4. You can start in your spare time. Start slow building a web page at a time. You don't have to create a massive website from the start. Build a page a week or a page a month as you maintain your nine-to-five J.O.B. There is no need to rush, but I'll bet you'll be excited to start.

5. You don't need employees. All the skills, talent, and management are your own responsibility.

6. You can make a lot of money! One information Website could easily bring in enough money for you to quit that J.O.B.! I'm sure you have more than one passion or interest. Just think if you created several Information Websites based on themes you are passionate about bringing in multiple amounts of income . Now do you begin to see the big picture?!

Becoming an Online Infopreneur is the most accessible entrepreneurial opportunity that the average person will have and can take immediate advantage of learning. It is the easiest and fastest way to start. It also insures a very low risk in starting your own online business since you can start with very little money. You will be able to create your financial independence, and build a fortune. Best of all, you can do it your way.

The Art of Persuasive Business Writing

All good writing involves persuasion-getting the reader over to your side. You may be writing to persuade a colleague to take on a new project, writing a blog post trying to persuade people to accept a new idea, or writing persuasive advertising copy for a new product. In each situation, your goal is to persuade your readers that you have something to say and that it is in their best interest to take the action you have requested.

Here are five elements to keep in mind when writing persuasive messages.

1. "You" attitude. Too much business writing has an "I" or "we" viewpoint, which causes the writer to sound selfish and not interested in the reader. If you want to get your point of view across, convey information, or persuade the reader, you have to talk in terms of the reader's interests, hopes, wishes, and preferences. Good writing psychology requires that you present your message in light of the reader's viewpoint rather than your own.

"I" or "We"
To help us process this order, we must ask for another copy of the requisition.

We trust you will extend your service contract.

"You"
So that your order can be filled promptly, please send another copy of the requisition.

By extending your service contract, you can continue to enjoy topnotch performance from your equipment.

2. Warmth. You can make all sorts of mistakes in your messages yet still leave your readers with a good feeling if you can convey the magic intangible of personal warmth. Warmth is more difficult in writing than it is in oral communications. Essentially, warmth is an aspect-possibly even the measure-of the "you" viewpoint. You should not only demonstrate concern for the audience's problems but interest in their attitudes and an appreciation of the ways in which handling the situation is going to be helpful to them.

3. Parallel experience. One way of touching the right spots with your reader is to draw on a parallel situation in your own experience. Build your writing around this experience, or use what you learned as a basis for your writing. By creating a sympathetic bond between you and your reader, you enhance the person-to-person connection and help your reader to become more open to what you are saying.

4. Good manners. If you want to persuade your reader, you must show impeccable manners. In other words, be nice. If you are rude or overly aggressive, your reader will shut down to your argument and turn elsewhere. When in doubt, put yourself on the other end of the writing and ask, "How would I feel if this was directed at me? Would I be offended, or would I be open to listening to more?"
5. Tone. The tone of your writing goes beyond the content of your words and offers the reader an overall feeling or indication of your meaning. The overall tone of your message will depend on the subject, but a general guideline is to stay positive. Suggest to your reader that you are interested in his or her problems and in solving them. A good tone is ruined by using harsh words or phrases. Some examples:

Poor
the alleged loss
you claim that
you neglected to send
in which you assert
if we were at fault
we request that you send us

Improved
the loss you refer to
we understand that
you did not send
you tell us
please accept our apologies
please send us

Persuasion is an art, not a science-but that does not mean there is no winning formula. By incorporating these five elements into your business communication, you will have a greater chance of getting your reader to stop, listen, and take the action you want.

Points To Consider

Internet Marketing

When you think about Marketing, what do you think of first? Which aspects of Marketing are important, which are essential, and which ones can you take or leave? You be the judge.

Millions of individuals are taking full advantage of the Internet these days. And they should considering how many great ways there are to earn extra cash. Some even make the decision to earn a living completely from home. Far too many folks are sick and tired of dealing with major companies and random lay-offs. You simply never know when it might be your turn to go. Therefore they begin making money online. Now, there are several ways one can go about this. Some people choose to start their very own Internet business, which can likely be ran from their home. While others dabble in adsense and make cash off of daily web traffic. Believe it or not, there is a great deal of money to be made this way.

It's crucial to consider what you need to avoid if your goal is making money online. Along with all the wonderful options at your fingertips, there are scams galore. I can't tell you how many scammers I've spotted online selling their hoopla. They pitch a great game about making money online. Virtually all of them will tell you how much can be made on the web if you do this and this, and then they proceed to pitch a product they're selling. Most likely it's a DVD or some sort of bogus software. This is where you have to stop and think for a moment. If they can really make so much cash doing what they're encouraging you to do, then why are they spending their time and effort pitching something to you? Wouldn't they be off making money online themselves? Instead they've chosen to sell a gimmicky product, which basically just amounts to some information. Obviously they weren't doing to well.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there's more to Marketing than you may have first thought.

When striving to earn cash via the web, avoid product pitches that guarantee riches. You can attain the crucial information you need for starting an online business, building websites and earning adsense revenue, or selling products via auctions, just by scouring the web. It's all free. Begin by contemplating how you want to start making money online and what aspect of web-business you'd excel at. The more time and effort you put into your online money-making, the more turn-over you'll surely see.

As your knowledge about Marketing continues to grow, you will begin to see how Marketing fits into the overall scheme of things. Knowing how something relates to the rest of the world is important too.

Car Insurance: Protect Your Assets

We all need to make the important decision about which car insurance we'll choose for our car. These days, not only do we need to find appropriate insurance for the vehicle we drive, but it is also required by law in almost every country. As a result, you need to make sure you keep the expiry date of your car insurance in mind.

Now, when it comes to car insurance, the other important matter is selecting an appropriate and reliable company that provides car insurance. In some countries, there are only state-owned automobile insurance companies that are allowed to offer car insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/) to customers whereas in several other countries in the world, there are lots of insurance companies in the private sector too dealing in automobile insurance.

With this in mind, it is essential you choose a reliable company that offers competitive premiums for its auto policy. You'll also want to make sure the company is fair and effective if you should need to make a claim for accidental repairs, or any other insurance claims that may arise. It is at times such as these that you'll need to depend on your insurance company, which is why choosing wisely is so important.

Cheap auto insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/) is something of a gamble. On one hand, the expense of car insurance is considerable and a factor that cannot be ignored. A company that can provide low rates and high levels of customer service may be an excellent selection. However, if the company does not do a good job of following up on policyholders' claims, cheap auto insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/) may do nothing more than illustrate the adage that you get what you pay for.

Another key feature of an automobile insurance policy is the online insurance (http://www.re-greatfalls.com/grtflls/36711-car-insurancecheap-auto.php) availability or lack of it. This feature is the most important for professionals, especially if their jobs include lots of travelling assignments. In such cases, access to online insurance becomes very convenient so that the customers can get extensions of their policies and make premium payments online, saving much time.

Life insurance is meant to protect our assets and, perhaps more importantly, our piece of mind in case of disaster. The knowledge that there is a large financial company looking out for you in times of trouble provides a sense of security at a time that is naturally highly emotionally fraught. If you can choose the right life insurance policy, then you can relax knowing that emergencies will be taken care of.

Everyone needs to decide on what kind of car insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/) to purchase. Availability of different kinds of policies varies by state, with some companies being private and others public. Wherever you live, you must pay attention to the company's reliability: do they pay their claims fairly and promptly? A cheap auto insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/Car-Insurance Information/36445-car-insurancecheap-auto.php) carrier may give poor service. You may also want to think about whether being able to manage online insurance (http://www.carinsurance-4.info/Car-Insurance Information/36445-car-insurancecheap-auto.php) issues is important to you, since not every carrier offers this. For everyone, good insurance is a source of peace of mind in today's busy world.Pennie Blog46855

Winning with Online Slots

Have you ever wondered if winning at online casino slots was possible? Is there actually a system that will allow me to maximize my chance of hitting the big one or at least making money?

The answer to both of the questions above are YES!

Of course winning while playing slots online is possible, in fact the odds of winning while playing online are much better then in a land based casino. The trick is to quit while your ahead rather then playing it all back.

Playing slots on the internet needs a very strict plan of action, its far to easy to lose all your money back because you have already purchased in the form of "credits" , credits just like credit cards make people spend more! Have you ever gone out shopping and made a larger purchase then you should have because you had that credit card in your wallet or purse? Same thing goes for slots at online casinos, credits are easy to spend so you must be very discipline and remember those credits are as good as cash!

Now is there actually a system for winning slots online? You Bet

Here is what works for me time and time again. Make your deposit and head for the "Video Slots", starting with the first video slot machine play 5 spins at what ever domination you have decided, keeping in mind you have to play this system with equal dominations for it to work!

Now, play all the way through the video slots including the progressive video slot machines, then go to the 5-line slots and take 5 spins at Break the Bank, now you've completed phase one. You have now nicely increased your bankroll or are slightly down, I'm willing to bet you will have considerably increased your bankroll.

If your bankroll has increased, go back to the video slots and play every machine that You Did Not receive the bonus round and play it till you do, once completed cash out, you've just increased your bankroll by at least 5 times! Congratulations.

If after the first go around you were down a few dollars, play the second round like the first, then follow step two.

It is as easy as that folks, just remember Discipline

The Art of Buying Travel Luggage

Not all luggage is created equal. There is a wide variety of prices and quality between manufacturers. Before you purchase luggage you should consider what your actual luggage usage will be. There is no need for you to purchase the most expensive luggage if you only travel once or twice a year or if you never plan to fly.

Most people probably remember the old Samsonite commercial with gorillas throwing the luggage around their cage. While this was hilarious it was close to the truth. Checked luggage takes a beating.

If you never plan to fly you don't need super expensive luggage. Of course, we'd never recommend buying the cheapest either. You will still need luggage that will hold up under some abuse.

We'd also recommend you pay close attention to how luggage is priced. Most manufacturers highly over inflate the price of their luggage then bring the prices down claiming they are on sale or are deeply discounted. Don't believe this. This is what the jewelry industry does. When you're looking at luggage always start with the final price.

One thing you'll find is hundreds of different brands of luggage. From the expensive high end Ricardo luggage which has a built in digital scale, to lesser priced American Flyer luggage and many in between. Some luggage manufacturers try to reach a young audience with their styles and patterns. JanSport luggage does this. Some companies make children's luggage with smaller sizes and adorable prints. Liz Claiborne luggage is sophisticated and stylish for the fashionable woman traveler.

You're lucky if your luggage is only beat up and not lost. What about lost airline luggage? Do you have any idea what happens to it? Did you know that you can buy articles from lost airline luggage?

Were you aware that if you don't want to both with your luggage at all when you travel you can use a luggage delivery service? It isn't cheap, but you can have your luggage picked up from your home and have it waiting for you at your destination. Again, be aware of prices. Some have up front pricing. Some are a bit more difficult to figure out. Some charge extra for Saturday delivery and add pick up and fuel surcharges to the price. Make sure that you are fully aware of all charges when it comes to a luggage delivery service, and be aware that they generally quote one-way prices only.

The choice of luggage can make or break your vacation. The last thing you need to have happen is to have a zipper break, or a seam split or have a handle break as you're walking out the door to the airport. Experts will say don't overload your suitcase. This causes undue stress on zippers and seams. Examine your suitcase when you take it off the airline carousel. Check it to make sure there has been no damage done to your luggage. If there is obvious damage done to your luggage immediately take it to the airline customer service center to report it.

What Items Should I Insure?

Insurance is an important financial tool, but it can be tricky to know what insurance you need. Not having enough insurance can leave you at risk should anything unexpected happen, but having too much insurance simply wastes your money. Knowing what items you should insure is important, and so here are some tips on which items you should get insured:

Disability

One type of insurance that many people overlook is disability insurance. Even people with good health insurance sometimes dont have adequate disability cover. Your health is probably your most precious tool, and you cannot afford to lose it. If the worst does happen then you need some form of compensation in order to get through such a difficult time. Disability insurance is something that everyone should be insured for.

Life insurance

Life insurance is also an important type of insurance. Although it obviously gives you no benefits, if you want your family to be financially secure after you die then it is an essential thing to have. Having adequate life insurance cover will make sure that your family can support themselves after you are gone.

Property insurance

Your home is probably the biggest asset you own, and so it pays to have it insured. You need to make sure that both the property itself and its contents are fully insured for any loss, theft or damage. If you live in an area that is particularly prone to bad weather such as flooding, then this is an important type of insurance for you to get. Anyone who has a home should have his or her possessions and property fully insured.

Car insurance

Car insurance isnt just important, it is a legal requirement. Although you dont have to have comprehensive insurance, some level of car insurance is required for you to be allowed to drive on public roads. If your car is valuable then it is important to be insured for damage as well as basic theft.

Liability insurance

Perhaps the most complex of all insurance types is liability insurance. This insurance protects you from others. If you are involved in an accident or make an error that causes damage to someones property or to themselves, then you might end up being sued. Having liability insurance will protect you from the harmful costs of compensation should they occur. The amount of cover you need depends on your net asset worth and how much you can afford to lose.

Insurance you should not get

Although many types of insurance are essential, there are types of insurance that simply arent necessary for most people. Insurance like flight insurance or payment protection insurance is usually overpriced and unnecessary. These types of insurance cost more than the benefits they give you, and most of their clauses will be covered under other comprehensive insurance policies that you have. The most important thing to remember with any type of insurance is to shop around and get advice before you buy. If you do this then you will end up with the right level of insurance for your needs.

Planning An Extension To Your Home

Adding an extension to your home is becoming more and more popular as an alternative to moving house. Ever increasing house prices and the costs of moving can make adapting your current home seem an attractive, more affordable option. However, you do need to think carefully and do some research to ensure your plans go smoothly. Although you will save on agents fees, stamp duty and removal expenses, there will be architects costs and disruption to your home.

Why build an extension?

Firstly think about the purpose of your extension. Do you need more space for a growing family, a home office, a self-contained area for an elderly relative, or are you thinking of the extension as an investment to increase the value of your property? The purpose of your building project will affect the planning permission you need and your budget. For example planning a large scale two storey extension will require a different approach to a small conservatory, and there is no point installing expensive, luxury fittings in your new kitchen if you are planning to move in a year or two.

Planning considerations

You should have a good look around your local area. In particular note whether any of your neighbours have extended their property and if so how? Do you wish to do something similar or do you have very different ideas? Your planning application will have to be in keeping with the area and is more likely to be accepted if there is already something similar nearby. All areas have rules and regulations covering basics such as how close to the house next door you can build and potential use of the building. However, in some cases there will be other restrictions such as in green belt areas, national parks and for listed buildings.

As long as they are done properly most extensions will add some value to your home. However, the cost of the build could be higher than the added value. Remember there will be fees incurred and there is likely to be a ceiling value for your particular type of property and neighbourhood.

How to finance your extension

How you decide to finance your extension will depend on the costs involved and your circumstances. However, re-mortgaging could well be your best option. This means you will pay off your current mortgage by taking out another. At the same time you increase the amount you borrow to cover the cost of your build. It is important to include all fees, internal fixtures and fittings, decorating and so on in your budget. Also consider whether you will have to move into rented accommodation for a short time and allow for that. Something unexpected will always happen so make sure you include a contingency fund.

Architects and planning permission

In order to decide whether your plans are feasible you are likely to need advice from an architect. Contact the Royal Institute of British Architects for a list of those registered in your area. Choose several and make an appointment to discuss your ideas. This type of initial consultation is usually free but check first. You can outline your requirements, look at their portfolio to see whether they have worked on similar projects before, and ask about their fee structure. You will then be in a position to select the most appropriate for your situation.

As a minimum an architect will draw up plans to submit to the planning department. They can negotiate with the council and hopefully you will obtain planning permission. However, be prepared for a slow process, particularly if you are refused at first or there are objections. Once you have planning permission you then have to submit detailed technical plans to cover building regulations. Some architects offer a further service to manage the whole project for you. This means they will get quotes from builders and oversee the work in progress. This may save you some worry and hassle but will be an additional expense.

How do I find a reputable builder?

By far the best way of finding a builder is word of mouth recommendation. Have any of your friends, neighbours or family used local builders and if so would they recommend their services? Alternatively look out for builders working nearby. They often put out company boards on site. Some builders specialise in particular types of work, for example loft or garage conversions, which may be appropriate for you. Think about whether you want a large company to come in and get the job done as soon as possible. In that case you can expect a lot of different people coming and going all the time, depending on the stage of the work. Alternatively are you prepared to wait for a two man set up which will be slower but may be less disruptive? It is a good idea to get at least three quotes and ask for a fixed price, otherwise your budget could quickly disappear. Also ask for timescales and how they will go about the work. Will they expect you to move out or will they work around you as far as possible?

Dine Al Fresco With The Perfect Picnic Goods

Summer is upon us again, and what better way of enjoying the sunny weather than by planning a family picnic? And while warmer weather is the perfect time to dine al fresco, there is also something lovely about having a picnic in the woods in autumn when the leaves are turning bright reds and orange. Indeed, providing you are well rugged up for cooler weather, you can almost picnic all year round.

Indeed there is no better way than enjoying the great outdoors than by packing a picnic and heading into the wilderness. And nothing makes for better family memories than by spreading out a blanket, setting out plates of delicious food, then simply sitting back and watching your children play in the fresh air.

Like most things, the best picnics are those that are well prepared and pre-organized. Having the right equipment can make this a whole lot easier. You need to think about the people you are taking on your picnic, as well as overall numbers. For instance, if there are going to be loads of children, you will obviously need to take practical, durable equipment that caters to their needs. If it is romantic picnic for two, you can be a bit more adventurous, taking champagne glasses and fine china.

Whatever the composition of your picnic party, be sure to take sufficient plates and cutlery for each member going on the picnic, as well as a few of extra settings just in case more people come. You will also need a large blanket, preferably one with a waterproofed base to prevent any dampness from the soil leaching into the blanket. Even if you are planning to eat at picnic tables, having a blanket is handy in case facilities are already occupied.

Other items which you may consider are canned fuel or charcoal for a barbecue; ice and ice containers to chill drinks and food in; paper plates for easy clean-ups; a thermal container for warm foods; table clothes; serviettes and garbage bags.

Before you leave on your picnic, you should also think about what activities you will be engaged in. You may wish to take sporting goods; beach balls; fishing rods and equipment; books and reading material. Finally be sure to take an umbrella, sun block, insect repellent and a simple first aid kit.

After all, the most memorable picnics are those that are well organized and carefully planned. In the great outdoors a simple change in weather, or a swarm of persistent mosquitoes, could ruin your day so be prepared for anything.

The Top 5 Steps to Smarter SAT Prep

The most frequent mistake made by people preparing to take the SATafter not studying enoughis studying in a sloppy, haphazard manner. The more care you take in the early stages of your preparation for the SAT test, the better the end result. Set demanding yet reasonable goals for your SAT experience, then summon the necessary self-discipline to follow through.

1. ASSEMBLING YOUR MATERIALS

An informed approach to SAT preparation begins with checking the College Boards website (http://www.collegeboard.com) for testing dates, locations and registration procedures. After that, you should buy (or borrow from a library or friend) an SAT test prep book. Youll also want to have an appropriate calculator, a notebook, plenty of paper and writing utensils, and a space (or two) conducive to concentrated study.

2. DIAGNOSIS & PRESCRIPTION

Using both your SAT prep book and the materials available at Sat Prep Plan (http://www.satprepplan.com), assess your strengths and weaknesses. Then set your goals (one of which should be a deep familiarity with the SAT tests overall structure, types of questions, and directions), and design a study plan that best fits your situation.

These first two steps should be completed as quickly as possible in order to allow the maximum time for actual SAT preparation.

3. GOING SOLO VS. TEAMING UP

Deciding which resources to use, and in what combination, marks a critical step in your SAT preparation agenda. A number of prominent companies offer comprehensive SAT test prep courses, but they may not fit your budget, schedule, or study needs. In addition to consulting the resources provided at http://www.satprepplan.com, you should consider the value of teaming up with a friend or two (often, having partners in any long-term, strenuous activity keeps everyones momentum going), and/or hiring an SAT tutor.

4. A MATTER OF TIME

Taking into account the SAT test dates you found in Step 1 and your other commitments, map out a weekly study schedule. You might find it helpful to alternate between working on sections of the SAT test, as well as between material thats easier and harder for you. Set periodic deadlines for achieving your goals, but bear in mind that you may need to adjust them. Also note that a smaller number of long study sessions are less helpful than a greater number of shorter ones. Finally, pay special attention to how youll prepare during the week of the SAT test itself.

5. HELP ON A BUDGET

The SAT test is expensive enough. It doesnt take a great deal of time or effort to maximize your SAT preparation dollar. For example, websites like http://www.satprepplan.com offer a variety of resources at no charge. With so many students taking the SAT test each year, it shouldnt be too difficult to locate used (but recent) versions of SAT prep books. You can also make your own flash cards, take several free SAT practice tests, and register to have the College Boards SAT question of the day sent to you via email all at little or no cost.
